Flight Pursers, Cathay Dragon

“People choose to fly for a number of reasons. That’s why our service needs to be flexible enough to accommodate them.”

“A work-life balance is important. I studied in London when I was young, and being alone for so long makes me want to have a family of my own. I was seventeen when I first flew and before taking off I was crying, thinking of my family and the girlfriend I had only just met but suddenly had to leave behind. I was lucky to meet a friendly flight attendant on board who noticed how upset I was and comforted me. That’s something I’ll never forget. Now as a purser myself I want to use that same empathy to serve my passengers. People choose to fly for a number of reasons. That’s why our service needs to be flexible enough to accommodate their needs. For example, when I see frequent business travellers I’ll serve them a glass of water with lemon and honey without them even asking. I anticipate their needs. The smile I receive in return gives me great satisfaction. Nevertheless the most rewarding part of my job is seeing passengers being reunited with their loved ones in the arrival hall. I share their joy, and nothing moves me more than the feeling of coming home.”

“Seeing my son becoming curious about new things on each journey makes me feel young again.”

“I have a son, and all I want is to be at home with him after work. I carry his baby picture in my handbag wherever I go, which is why I’m always eager to return. I try as hard as I can to better understand our passengers. I anticipate their needs and do my best to keep them informed of what’s happening. Cathay Dragon is meticulous with every detail because we value our passengers. I used to travel with my friends in the past, but now I enjoy travelling with my son. I took him on a plane for the first time when he was just two. Seeing his curiosity about new things on each journey makes me feel young again.”
