“The small touches are what matter.”

“You have to make your time at the airport worthwhile, because that’s part of travelling. And if you don’t enjoy the airport then you can’t really enjoy travelling. To be more specific, Cathay has all these lounges offered to the passengers, and we’re naturally going to take advantage of that. We figure out which ones have the best food, and gravitate there. Once I’m on the plane a bottle of water is very important. The air is so dry and the water really helps. Travelling is just about going from point A to point B, and you don’t enjoy the process. It’s boring. Travelling well is making it stress free and enjoying the whole process, and then at the departure the lounges help, and then once you’re on board the flight attendants are great. They’ll come and greet you. The small touches are what matter.” – Matthew Ng

“I like to just sit somewhere with a coffee and watch the world go by and try to understand the local culture better.”

“Travelling well for me, on a logistical level, is all about the small things. You can’t expect to have everything with you on your trip that you have at home, but sometimes the airline might have the same soap you use or cotton pads to clean your face with. Trust me, these things are important and they make all the difference. In terms of customer service, it’s as simple as feeling like you belong and are made to feel welcome. It’s strange but I sometimes feel bad for being served by cabin crew, like I don’t want to disturb them, but when I see the smile on their face and the warmth they exude I feel so grateful. It’s comforting when you feel they want you there, and Cathay does that as well as anyone. These days travel itself is less about wild adventures and more about stress-free time away from work, clients, and emails. I’m not particularly an extrovert by nature, so I like to just sit somewhere with a coffee and watch the world go by and try to understand the local culture better. It’s so fascinating. I could do it all day.” – Carina Ho
